ANYTHING GOES Joe Lansdale
Joe Lansdale has written novels and stories in many genres, including Western, horror, science fiction, mystery, and suspense. He has also written for comics as well as Batman: The Animated Series. He has written 45 novels and published 30 short story collections along with many chapbooks and comic book adaptations. Several of his novels have been adapted to film.
Frequent features of Lansdale's writing are usually deeply ironic, strange or absurd situations or characters, such as Elvis and JFK battling a soul-sucking Egyptian mummy in a nursing home (the plot of his Bram Stoker Award-nominated novella, Bubba Ho-Tep, which was made into a movie by Don Coscarelli). He is the winner of the British Fantasy Award, the American Horror Award, the Edgar Award, and ten Bram Stoker Awards. In 2007 he received the World Horror Convention Grand Master Award.
His Hap and Leonard series of nine novels and three novellas feature two friends, Hap Collins and Leonard Pine, who live in the fictional town of Laborde, in East Texas, and find themselves solving a variety of often unpleasant crimes. The characters themselves are an unlikely pairing; Hap is a white working class laborer in his mid forties who once protested against the war in Vietnam and spent time in federal prison rather than be drafted and Leonard is a gay black Vietnam vet. Both of them are accomplished fighters, and the stories (told from Hap's narrative point of view) feature a great deal of violence, profanity and sex. Lansdale paints a picture of East Texas which is essentially "good" but blighted by racism, ignorance, urban and rural deprivation and corruption in public officials. Some of the subject matter is extremely dark, and includes scenes of brutal violence. These novels are also characterized by sharp humor and "wisecracking" dialogue.

The Fat Lady still has not sung. It's not over. Please don't believe the media hype. Bernie lost by 2/10ths of a point in Missouri and got 32 delegates to Clinton's 31. He lost by 1.5 points in Illinois and received 67 delegates. Clinton received 68. If you care about your country, there is an internet full of information - you can choose what not to believe and what to believe, but first look at the information. Search the candidates' histories. Anybody can write a commercial -- I did it for 34 years. Anybody can write a speech or make a promise. But you need to dig deeper. Look further. It's not about what's best for the candidate or who deserves what. It's about what's good for the country - what's good for our children and our grandchildren's futures. It's not about who endorsed who - somebody could promise somebody's church a million dollars worth of benefits for their endorsement. This is not to say endorsements don't have any value. They do. But the most valuable tool is your mind. Take the time to research the candidates. If you're in a state that has not yet voted - or you know someone that is - don't listen to the media, don't listen to the establishment - learn for yourself. The most dangerous voter is an informed voter. The Bible says "My people perish for lack of knowledge." To those of you who have your minds made up and don't want to be confused by the facts - I beg you to open your mind, and get the facts. I promise you won't be confused. Today we continue in the study of the 7 parables of Jesus from Matthew 13 which are literally Strange Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.
So far we’ve studied the first 5 which included the Fruitless Farmer and His good seed that failed to grow and prosper in the stubborn, rocky, and thorny soils, then we looked in the Mystery of the Treacherous Tares; wild weed that was sown among the true seed by none other than Satan.
Then we studied the Monstrous Mustard Tree and then the parable of the leaven and the sneaky housewife who hid that lethal leaven in three measures of meal.
And finally last week we got some good news about the hidden treasure, and today we will see some more good news: The One Pearl of Great Price.
Matthew 13:45-46 KJV Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: [46] Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
This is another very short parable which is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.
Now there's no other parable in these seven that has been more misinterpreted than this parable of the pearl of great price.
First we'll learn how it's misinterpreted and then we'll look at the truth concerning the pearl of great price.
So be sure to tune in to hear the proper interpretation and then three great Biblical truths concerning this One Pearl of Great Price as we learn how it was wrought, how it was sought and how it was bought.
And then we’ll thank God for the wonderful salvation that we have in the LORD Jesus Christ!

God wants to speak to you about who you are
Pastor Brad Morgan of New Life Beginnings Church in Pattison, TX continues speaking about how God is opening doors. There are aslo some doors in our lives that needs to be closed. Proverbs 18:16 says, "A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men." The gift that God has placed upon the inside of you has been given by God. God wants you to use that gift. It doesn't matter what the gift is, but it matters that you use that gift.
Galatians 6:6-10 says, "Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith."
One of the ways that we do not lose heart is to pray. Luke 18:1 says, "Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart ..." You need to pray and call in faith to God and persist in that prayer. Add your faith to your sowing and expect to reap!
Pastor Brad continues teaching from 1 Samuel 9. God wants to speak to you about who you really are and today is a dawning of a new day. Further, Pastor Brad speaks from Psalm 113:5-9, "Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people."

A pragmatist's view of the insane world around us

I just ad lib about what it's like to be me, being aware, intelligent, thoughtful....and to see how our lives have been hijacked by powers beyond our comprehension.
