Welcome to Amy Alkon's HumanLab: The Science Between Us, a weekly show with the luminaries of behavioral science.
Relationships with family -- and the pets that are part of our families -- are important to our emotional health and can play a significant role in our social success.
Tonight, evolutionary psychologist Dr. Catherine Salmon will lay out some fascinating information about our evolved psychology within our families, including -- among other things -- how rivalry isn’t just a sibling thing but a parent-child thing and how and why we create family relationships with people we aren’t related to -- as well as with our pets.
The book we'll be discussing is one Salmon co-edited with fellow evolutionary psychologist Todd Shackelford, "The Oxford Handbook of Evolutionary Family Psychology." (Salmon and Shackelford also wrote a number of chapters, along with others they commissioned from some of the other top researchers in evolutionary psychology and anthropology.)
Join me and all my fascinating guests every Sunday (at our new half-hour time), 7-7:30 p.m. Pacific Time, 10-10:30 p.m. Eastern Time, at blogtalkradio.com/amyalkon or subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher.
Please support this show by ordering my book, the well-reviewed, science-based, and funny "Good Manners For Nice People Who Sometimes Say F*ck."
Jabari Davis and Jamieson Welsh are back at it talking NBA once again this week. The duo discussed Carmelo Anthony's recent admission that times are getting tougher in New York, LeBron James' questionable leadership tactics and motivational tweeting, the continued excellence of the San Antonio Spurs and their leader Kawhi Leonard, and how they are each continue to be impressed by the young core of the Los Angeles Lakers.
I've had lots of conversations with believers. Some were good apologists, others were just okay. Who was the best aplogist I ever met? Who made the arguments that I had the hardest time trying to refute? Whose arguments drove me off the wall?
It may surprise you to learn that while I was deconverting, I was the best apologist I knew. I knew just how to argue with me. I knew the reasons I believed, and I knew why I had doubts.
Today, those internal arguments serve as my starting point for many of my conversations with believers.
I'll explain why, and how I think this makes me better equiped today.
Plus, your calls.
Let the awesomeness flow!

Sunday night at 9pm Pacific, The Midnight Hour Eastern we are pleased to have Ghost & MONSTER Hunter Gaylen Chauncey!
Gaylen Chauncey; "If you could see what I see everyday, you wouldn't leave your house."
Gaylen is the founder of Ghost Hunters of Virginia and is the author of ghost stories, "The Make Believe In The Boogeyman Chronicles". Paranormal Investigator for over 25 years. There are “other things” in the dark besides ghosts so sometimes monster hunter is used to describe Gaylen. Labeled a Geomancer, which basically means she is an EMF detector, makes it easier to go hunting when she can feel a spirits energy. Gaylen helps with hauntings because ghosts must move on. God has forgiven, they just got to learn to forgive themselves. What sometimes may feel like an evil experience may just be a sad, frustrated, lost angry spirit. Gaylen works with the good, the bad and the ugly of the paranormal. An author of “The Make Believe in the Boogeyman Chronicles,” based on my ghost and monster experiences. She believes in sharing information on the paranormal so we can all learn from each other, even if it only helps one person, it is all worth it. But it does make it easier to go "Ghost Hunting" when you can feel there is nothing to fear from the ghosts". A spirit photographer, taking pix of ghost mist and orbs she can see with her eyes. Researcher into the anything paranormal. ANYTHING.....
Welcome back friends and BTR family! After a brief "disappearing act", we're back with a new and improved show. Though the Give Him Free series has been put to rest, the movement itself is very much alive and STILL important. The new series, Behind Closed Doors, comes from recent developments and changes in recent weeks that will, by the grace of God, continue until we "give him free". New show, new name, same classic hip hip and R&B, "ratchet" news and other random phuckery you're used to hosted by none other than MC Bigga Nigga (aka "Free") himself. Thanks to everyone that has been 10 toes down since the beginning. Lets continue to put a voice to the movement and bring "him" home for good.
In this episode I will preach about Isaiah 24 Which talks about the tumultous times during the tribulation period.
I had no idea what I was gonna talk about and as I started to come up with the topic as I was trying to listen to the Holy Spirit, I find it interesting that this topic came up since I just talked about the truth last week.
A lot of times we say that we want the truth, but the truth does not always feel good. In fact many times it does not feel good especially when it is revealing things in us. However, in order for us to grow, the Holy Spirit continues to show us our heart through the Word and through others around us. It can be so easy to see the truth about others, but refuse to accept the truth in ourselves and where we need to change.
John 3:19-21 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."
2 Corinthians 7:9-10 "Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."
THIS IS A TALK SHOW - SO GET READY TO PARTICIPATE. I want to talk about the things that are affecting our lives, and how we're all getting along.
The conversation is gonna be off the hook, and we invite you to call in and participate in this show by using the Guest Call In (347) 205-9364 We are also looking for producers who know what they got... SKILLS!!! Show us then.. Sign up for battle of the Beats.

How come I don't have good hair? Black women are the only women that dont like their natural hair. Black women have adopted so many different styles for their hair. We have used different techniques to straighten our hair to appear more European ("straight hair") . In ”Natural hair is for you" with guest host Ariane Williams, we will talk about the pros of cons of relaxed vs natural and what that does to our subconscious. We will also talk more about why women feel they cant rock natural hair to work.
My Sister My Friend is an internet show here to provide information and resources to our Sisters. Marvelous Monday with Dr. Shirley McKellar and Bishop L.J. Guillory is always the way to start the week! In 2016 we will make some important decisions about the direction of our country and the lives of American people and families. It is our civic responsibility to stay informed on the issues, pay close attention to the actions and decisions of our elected officials, get to know the people who are running for office and educate ourselves and others about the importance of VOTING! Let's get moving in the right direction for 2016, starting right here on Marvelous Monday!
Show your support for Dr. Shirley McKellar in her run for US Congress to send Louie Gohmert packing and give REAL representation to the good people of the First District in Texas!
Hr 1: CPAC 2016 Wrap Up! And... Abortion activist doesn't want clean clinic standards and thinks Jesus is ok with abortion! And... City thinks fining homeless people will make them straighten up. So much stupid!
Hr 2: Kids taught to pledge allegiance to an International Flag while defacing likeness of American Flag. AND... Andrea Nelson, from the Clover Agency, talks colleges & millennials, should a college be held responsible for a student's inability to land a job? AND... Caitlyn Jenner comes out in support of Ted Cruz. How can that be? Cruz isn't a trans-advocate?
Hr 3: Jesse Watters interviews millennials. This is our next generation. We're in so much trouble. AND... The jobs report. It's still not looking so good. Don't believe what they say! AND... If exit polling is significantly off from election results, votes have probably been hacked.
Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately?
